We’re celebrating new features added to our Alma & Co. website and we are hosting a Twitter party! But as I started to “hand-out” invitations, we’re finding that a lot of people have never heard of a Twitter party or they seem intimidated by it.

Good news is: it’s really easy once you get the basics nail down…

A Twitter party is a fast and fun virtual party, using the Twitter platform. If that sounds too complicated, think of it as a group chat with a hashtag (see what I did there?). Usually held in the evenings, Twitter parties last one or two hours and are a great way to connect with new and old friends using the power of social media. People get together for fun, friends and support. Often times twitter parties have some great prizes to give away (like ours, hint, hint).
Most Twitter parties have a panelist or host. The party host will announce the hashtag prior to the event – Alma & Co. parties use #myalmacoparty. Participants tweet with that specified hashtag. Some hosts may require you to RSVP, some don’t.

You can attend Twitter Parties on Twitter by simply searching the hashtag. However, you will have to refresh your webpage to see new posts and you have to add the designated party hashtag, something that aggregators like Tchat.io do automatically for you. Other popular aggregators are TweetDeck and Hoosuite. I would highly recommend using an aggregator tool to attend a Twitter Party. Tchat.io is a favorite of ours because it is extremely simple to use and doesn’t require an account.

Now that Twitter Parties have lost their intimidation, want to try it out?  You’re in luck. We are having one!
