For many, Valentine’s Day is reminder to show love to your friends and significant other. I believe that you don’t need a special day to show your love to not just to your significant other but to friends, family and yourself, too! There are many significant ways to show love but we have five ways to say “I love you!” that don’t involve spectacular displays of affection, a dozen anything or an over-priced dinner reservation. And, as always, if you have any other ideas to make this list a 10 ways to say I love you, please go ahead and comment below! Can’t wait to see your comments…

1. Write a heartfelt note. Sometimes what we write down has more impact than what we say because it requires a little more thought. For some of us, it is also easier to express our feelings in writing. Tell the important people in your life how you feel about them. No need to be overly poetic, just keep it simple. Pick a pretty card and write down how you feel about them. It could be how something they did or said has impacted your life; how much you miss them when they’re not around or any other heartfelt and encouraging words.

2. Let them pick the plans and find a way to enjoy it. Go to a sports game even if you could care less, cook their favorite meal even though you wouldn’t touch broccoli with a ten feet pole or go line dancing and see the experience through their eyes. The point is, do something for the other person just because you know it is something they will love, need or enjoy.

3. Introduce them to something new. Invite them to experience something that would enrich their lives or to meet friends of yours they don’t know. Nothing says I value you like the gift of inclusion.

4. Surprise! Who doesn’t love surprises big or small? It doesn’t have to be anything too complicated or expensive. Plan a day together, bring home their favorite chocolate croissant and latte, leave a little note that says “hi” “love you” or “miss you”, or buy them something small, sparkly and special (some ideas here!).

5. Give of your talents. A handmade gift has love built right into it by the person that creates it. So bake a pie, make a card, put together a basket of their favorite goodies, mix some bath salts, write a song, knit a hat, scarf… you get the idea. You can find some inspiration here.
